10 minutes

Practising meditation does not need to be hard. The stereotype image of a monk cross legged in a quiet place is not necessary. Meditation can be fitted into any moment of your day where you have just a few minutes. Even if you cannot commit to 10 minutes try it for a few minutes. If your just home from work or even about to go into work, in your car about to go into the supermarket, waiting for the bus, or in a hospital waiting room all provide good place to practice 10 minutes of meditation.

The secret to meditation is to practice it regularly just as if you were doing walking to become fit. The same applies to meditation. I find that a least 5 days a week is perfect. What is involved when we meditate is just as easy as the length of time it takes. All you have to do is to close your eyes, bring you attention/awareness to your breathing just at the tip of the nose and relax....breath normally.....follow the in breath and..... follow the out-breath. If you can keep your attention on the breathing for even a minute you will be doing great. Thoughts will enter your mind and take your attention of your breathing and you will find yourself in a day dream. The moment you realise that you are no longer following your breath bring your attention back to it. Follow the breath again......breath in.........breath out..... Over a over thoughts will interrupt and each time this happens bring the attention back to the breathing. What the regular meditation session will do is develop you mental strength so that you keep you attention on the breath. From this practice and as the weeks pass by you will notice that you are becoming more mindful at various times in the day, you will begin to appreciate the beauty of the present moment. The benefits of meditation are numerous: stress reduction, appreciation of life, becoming more content, improving attention to name a few. For something that can have so much benefit for so little effort gives nobody any reason not to incorporate meditation into their life.
